The Windows 7 logon background may seem dull or boring to some users. Don’t like it? Here’s a guide on how to customize the Windows 7 logon background to whatever you choose. By downloading TweakLogon one can easily change their Windows 7 Logon Background. I believe it works on all editions of Windows 7.

1) Download the application, and save it somewhere. It’s portable, so it requires no installation. You’ll want to run the application under administrative rights and if UAC pops up, hit “Yes”.

2) Find an image. I use wallbase.net, which has a huge set of desktop wallpapers. You’ll want to resize it to 1024×600 (netbook resolution). The file also must be less than 256kb.

NOTE: Setting your logon background provides the perfect opportunity to get it “branded” with your name. In case your netbook gets lost, someone can turn it on and find your contact information. It’s possible to hide your contact information at the bottom right corner of the background without it being too intrusive.

3) Hit the “Change Logon Screen” button and you’ll be provided with an explorer window. Select your image, and hit “Test”. It will do the equivalent of switching users (does not require another user).

You’re done! If you ever want to change it again, simply select a different image. If you want to revert back to the default logon wallpaper, simply hit the “Revert to default” button.

Note that every time you change a Visual Style within Windows 7, your logon background may reset itself. You’ll want to re-select your custom background using the application.
