Minty Fresh “Isadora” KDE
0The Linux Mint team recently released the 9th version of their distro, called Linux Mint 9 “Isadora”. Along with their Gnome version they released a sister KDE version, with a KDE desktop. This is a really cool move because KDE has some features that Gnome has yet to offer.
The installation was quick and easy. I booted from the disc and then installed while testing. The KDE desktop looked absolutely amazing (I’ve been using Gnome for a pretty long time now), providing a slick and polished look. I found the appearance of Mint to rival that of Windows 7′s Aero.
KDE Mint also comes with desktop widgets preinstalled that you can use, and overall they don’t take up that much of your processor (20% was the highest I saw with 5 gadgets on my screen and several apps open) The OS itself is efficient and comes loaded with all the repositories that Ubuntu has to offer. Mint also supports Debian, giving you access to the thousands of applications online packaged in .deb format.
Overall, Linux Mint KDE is very polished and professional, and a nice choice for your netbook. If you happen to be looking for a fast operating system with tons of features, I recommend you look around on their website.
