Tip: Create a Windows 7 Repair Disc
3Windows 7 is a very solid OS – I’ve never encountered any big crashes or errors I had to dig around to fix. However, no OS is perfect, and in the case that Windows 7 does crash and mess up system files, you might be stuck in quite a jam. However, Windows 7 has a lot of tools to help recover Windows – one of them being a Windows 7 Repair Disc.
What does the Repair Disc do? The Windows 7 Repair Disc comes with a set of utilities to help revive a Windows install. Tools include automatic startup repair, restoring to an image backup, and even access to a command prompt window. You can boot from the repair disc to access the utilities, whether or not your Windows install still functions.
To create a repair disc, you must have a CD drive available. Netbook owners may have to get themselves an external CD drive to use. Pop in a blank CD, and in the Windows start menu, search for “Create a repair disc”. Run the application that the search brings up, and Windows will step you through.
The earlier you create a disc, the better – your system may crash soon and possibly refuse to boot up. When I was trying out and installing various Linux distributions, I found myself unable to boot into any OS – GRUB, the Linux bootloader, had gotten itself into an infinite loop, rendering it impossible to boot into any OS I had installed. Fortunately, I had my Windows 7 repair disc on hand, so, I used it to take over as bootloader by repairing the master boot record.

Dont you need to install drivers to get the external cd/dvd drive to work so you need to install the drivers from the disk for the cd/dvd drive in order to get the cd/dvd drive to read disks which is impossible
Most external CD drives should be plug and play. Mine is – the BIOS recognizes it as a CD drive, and I can boot from it perfectly.
ah ok thank you for the info
