Tip: Viewing System Specs

0

When it comes to viewing your system’s technical specifications, Windows doesn’t exactly seem to provide a way to view them. Viewing system properties only brings up simple details about your system. However, there is indeed a very simple tool that Windows has built-in, called the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Although it may seem like a utility that is meant for advanced users, it’s a great reference for those who want to check their system specifications.

The DirectX Diagnostic Tool will collect information about all the hardware specifications and drivers installed on your system and list them out in a neat dialogue box. Sound devices, display devices, processor information, RAM, everything is there separated in various tabs. What’s even better is that you can save all the collected information in a nice organized .txt file so you can share with others in the case that you need tech support. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool is great for people who don’t want to install extra software such as Speccy just to view their system’s specifications.

The DirectX Diagnostic Tool can be accessed by pressing the Windows start button, and searching for “dxdiag“. For those with Windows XP or lower, you can access the DirectX Diagnostic Tool by pressing the start button and opening the “Run…” menu – enter in “dxdiag” and run it. You can view your system specifications by using the tabs on the top of the program. If you want to save all the collected data in a nice .txt file, simply press the “Save all information” button at the bottom.
