Recuva, the free file recovery utility

3

If you’ve ever accidentally deleted a file or want to recover a deleted file, you usually have to pay quite a fee for dedicated file recovery services. However, if the file was deleted not too long ago, you don’t have to pay money to get it back – using free file recovery utility Recuva for Windows, you can easily recover deleted photos, videos, documents, and more.

Developed by Piriform, Recuva is a free solution to most file recovery needs. When it comes to file recovery, the more time that passes since the deleted file was deleted, the less chance of having it recovered. When a file is deleted, it’s not really deleted, but instead, is marked to be overwritten. So when Recuva scans, files that were deleted not too long ago may be in excellent condition, whereas files deleted a few days ago may be in worse shape.

Recuva is very easy to use – you first select which type of file you’re looking for, such as pictures, videos, documents, etc. or you can choose to search for all files. Then, it asks you where the files were before you deleted them. After that step, you can start scanning. Recuva will list out all the files found, and their condition in terms of file integrity. Can’t find the file you’re looking for? Recuva has a “deep scan” mode that takes considerably longer than a normal scan, but it can dig out more files than the normal scan feature.

As a file recovery utility, it’s best to install Recuva as soon as you can – in the case that you want to recover a file that you’ve deleted, it might be too late to have Recuva installed. It’s lightweight, it’s free, and works great on netbooks and all editions of Windows – what are you waiting for? Yep. Piriform makes excellent products, and they’re all free. The only one I don’t have installed is Speccy.

I only have Ccleaner. Defragler seems ok… but I prefer MyDefrag instead. :)
