I wanted to invert my screen colors too, but the solution you provide, which is the only one I found at the time, did not convince me. So, after some research I created my own, NegativeScreen. :)

It's a simple little program, free and open source, and is designed to be much more convenient than the magnifier trick.

You can try it out here :
<a href="http://arcanesanctum.net/negativescreen/" rel="nofollow">http://arcanesanctum.net/negativescreen</a>.

Your arguments are valid and in the end, it is a matter of convenience.
I recently replaced my Samsung n130 with a new Acer Aspire One 722 with a bigger screen resolution and a c-60 AMD APU.
And once again I was reminded by the new unit, how much I NEED a Netbook even though I have a smartphone.

Like you have written, I do have some software which runs on windows (Software for my bike Satnav).
And most important, with the bigger screen height and power of the new Acer, mobile websurfing or watching videos is a blast. The phone is just used as a modem.
My big PC as home remains a gaming plattform, most of the time I spend with my netbook instead.

So, yes you do not need a netbook if you have a smartphone. But it is still a very convenient thing to have.
